Lower Kanarraville Falls

The first falls in Kanarraville Canyon has been altered numerous times over the years. Now there are metal plates screwed onto the log while two ropes are anchored into both walls.

Mountain of Sand

It's impossible to describe the immense size of Denali. It's taller then Mt. Everest from bottom to top and also one of the most massive mountains on Earth. The foothills you see here would be regular sized mountains in most places on the continent.

Out at Last

Getting out of a canyon into the open land right at sunset can be a good feeling.

VGorge-1

The first time I visited the Gorge on foot I had no idea what to do because there aren't any trails. I needed a goal, so I picked the top of this butte. I never made it to the top because I got distracted by other places to go by the time I was halfway there.

I watched this storm produce some rainbows and refreshing cool wind but after a while it came over and pummelled me with freezing rain.

Snowy Pines at Emerald Pools

I was fortunate enough to go hiking to Emerald pools after a major snow storm. I was unfortunate enough that after this point the trail was closed due to dangerous ice and fallen trees. Still a beautiful day.

The West Temple

This is one of my all time favorite icons of rock anywhere in the world. Visible from nearly everywhere, and immediately recognizable, i've used it countless times over the years to get my bearings or just admire it's beauty.

Upper Kanarraville Falls

The upper falls has only one rope and requires climbing up a slippery log with a few awkward hand grips. You could get hurt so it's a good turning around point. Also, this point is past most of the narrows.

Another notable Hoodoo in Cave Valley. Since this picture was taken it's possible this land was part of a parcel sold to a private individual, and no longer belongs to the public.

The River More Ancient than Epochs

Another one of my favorite views, of all the places i've been. The Green River, far older than the Colorado or any of these Canyons, meanders through a perfect set of curves in a vast desolate landscape called Canyonlands. Beyond the canyons the Henry Mountains remind me of where i spent so many afternoons escaping the heat of the desert and exploring old mines.

Center of the Universe

I had been up to this cool white pass in Zion years ago, and found out that more recently a park employee, like i used to be, had also discovered it and told people it was like the "center of the universe". I agree as far as it seems to be another of those areas with a science fiction feel to it. It made me think of distant futures.
